Muzikawi is proud to announce the highly anticipated re-release of Stereo Instrumental Music, the trailblazing 1976 album by the legendary Ibex Band. Featuring the innovative artistry of Giovanni Rico and Selam Woldemariam, this pivotal record will be available worldwide on all major streaming platforms starting April 11, 2025.
Originally recorded using cutting-edge four-track technology, Stereo Instrumental Music marks a milestone in Ethiopian music history. The Ibex Band-musical pioneers who laid the foundation for artists like Aster Aweke, Tilahun Gessesse, Girma Beyene, Mahmoud Ahmed, and Mulatu Astatke-crafted a timeless sound that helped define the golden era of modern Ethiopian music. Their collaborations, including the iconic Ere Mela Mela, continue to resonate across generations.
For vinyl enthusiasts, a special limited-edition double LP will also be released. International pre-orders are now open through:
- @diskunion (Japan)
- @hhvrecords (Germany)
- @mrbongoworldwide (UK/US)
(distributed by @thepusherdistribution)
In Ethiopia, local fans can register for pre-orders via a dedicated form provided by Muzikawi. To celebrate the re-release, a listening party will be held at Tyrst Addis on Thursday, April 10, 2025, starting at 6:30 PM.
The reissue not only honors the legacy of Ibex Band-later known as The Roha Band-but also shines a spotlight on a crucial chapter in Ethiopian cultural history. Emerging during politically turbulent times, the band’s innovative sound helped shape a resilient and evolving musical identity that continues to influence Ethiopian artists today.
Muzikawi has already released two singles from the album, “Yezemed Yebada” and “Zerafewa”, now streaming on all major platforms and on the Muzikawi YouTube channel.
