Selam Ethiopia is a pioneering non-governmental, not-for-profit cultural organization working at the intersection of arts, culture, and development. With over two decades of experience, Selam has established itself as a regional leader in creative sector development, cultural policy advocacy and international cooperation.

Selam’s work is deeply rooted in music as a driver of cultural expression, social inclusion, and creative economy growth. Its flagship initiatives include the Addis Jazz Festival, Muzikawi, the Pan African Network for Artistic Freedom (PANAF), and the Connect for Culture Africa (CfCA) program.

Position Summary

Selam Ethiopia is seeking a dynamic, creative, and strategic Marketing & Communications Coordinator to lead the organization’s communication efforts and contribute to the visibility and branding of both Selam Ethiopia and Muzikawi.

The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping how Selam engages with audiences, partners, and the media  both locally and internationally. This role combines storytelling, marketing strategy, brand management, and digital communication to strengthen Selam’s image as a Pan-African leader in arts and culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy & Planning
    • Implement Selam Ethiopia’s Communications and Marketing Strategy.
    • Develop annual and project-specific communication plans for visibility, audience engagement, and brand development.
  • Content Development & Media
    • Create high-quality written and visual content (press releases, newsletters, social media, promotional materials, multimedia).
    • Manage and grow Selam Ethiopia’s digital platforms (website, social media, newsletters).
    • Coordinate media relations — including press conferences, interviews, and coverage of Selam events.
  • Branding & Visibility
    • Ensure consistent application of Selam Ethiopia’s brand and visual identity across all outputs.
    • Design and manage marketing materials for festivals, events, and campaigns.
    • Support audience development through creative campaigns that enhance public engagement, ticket sales, and brand reach.
  • Partnerships & Promotion
    • Collaborate with program teams to ensure visibility for ongoing projects and partnerships.
    • Develop promotional strategies targeting youth audiences, cultural tourists, and creative industry stakeholders.
    • Support sponsorship visibility and partner communication deliverables.
  • Monitoring & Reporting
    • Produce periodic communication reports (digital analytics, media coverage, campaign performance).
    • Conduct brand audits and collect lessons learned to improve future campaigns.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Media Studies, or related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in communications, preferably within the cultural or NGO sector.
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills in English and Amharic; other local or international languages are a plus.
  • Proven experience in digital marketing and social media management.
  • Familiarity with Ethiopia’s culture and creative sector and understanding of the Pan-African creative ecosystem.
  • Strong design and layout skills (experience with Canva, Adobe Suite, or similar tools).
  • Excellent organizational and event coordination abilities.
  • Strategic thinker with attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.

Desirable

  • Experience working on cultural events, creative hubs, or festivals.
  • Knowledge of media relations, photography, or videography.
  • Understanding of heritage communication and audience development in cultural contexts.
